A Few of My Favorite Things

     What Magic blog can be complete without a top 10 favorite cards. This is not a top 10 most powerful cards, or a top 10 best cards ever. This is a top 10 of my favorite cards to play with.




10.  Lightning Bolt - The quintessential burn spell. 3 damage for one mana is pretty much the most efficient burn Wizards has ever printed. It was a staple of red decks for many years. Too bad it has been replaced with Shock.















9. Ball Lightning - One of my all time favorite creatures. 6 damage for 3 mana is pretty damn sweet. too bad it dies at the end of the turn. but if it didn't the card would be way too over powered.














8. Faerie Conclave - Man lands have always been popular. They avoid creature removal, can produce mana, and are just a fun concept. The face that this one is blue and has evasion is just icing on the cake.

7. Demonic Tutor - A must have is you are running combo. Even in other deck types it is a great card. Just grab what ever you need. Even the extended tutor family, which extends into other colors, are awesome cards.














6. Hymn to Tourach - The greatest discard spell ever. 2 cards for 2 mana, and the discards are random. The face on your opponent when you drop this is priceless.















5. Force of Will - The counter spell. It has made vintage and legacy playable. Being able to counter for 0 mana stops so many degenerate combos. The funny thing is, when this was first printed many players didn't realize how good it was.














4. Serra Angel - One of the first efficient big white flyers. Today it's been outclassed, but back in the begging of magic one of the best creatures you could get.








 








3. Dark Ritual - The greatest mana acceleration card ever printed. Sickeningly fast. It allows you to get out stuff on turn 1 that should never hit the board that early. And it was in the game for a long time. It was just assumed that if you were running black you were running 4 of these.













2. Counterspell - A spell so iconic a whole line of cards is named after it. When i got into magic there were a lot of players that had the older cards, like the power 9 where I played. Counterspell stopped every single one of those cards. The reason I have Counterspell higher than Force of Will is because I have so many fond memories of counter saving my ass.












  
1. Swords to Plowshares - Yes, this is my favorite card of all time. Takes care of almost any creature for just one mana. A staple in any white deck for many years.
